78' TRADE WINDS II

tradewinds

Captree's only dedicated ocean fluke boat.

Monday, 9/01

Fluke season went out with a burp todat. A big groundswell turned fishing off, and we only picked at them through the day, while looking for a patch of hungry ones. Check here regularly to see what we will be targeting in the coming weeks. So far, we are looking to make a da squid trip on Sunday, 9/07. We are potentially going to fish for fluke in Federal waters on Saturday (No fluke will ne kept), or go bottomfishing.

Saturday,8/30

Monday,8/25

Very tough today with only 10 keepers coming over the rail. Slow short life.

Sunday, 8/24

Pickiest bite of the week today. Where we usually got a period of decent fishing each day, today it didn't seem to materialize, or we were looking in the wrong place when it did. Time for something different, again.

GO TO OUR FISHERIES MANAGEMENT Contact PAGE to find out who you can contact about extending the 2008 FLUKE SEASON! HURRY TIME IS RUNNING OUT~Call Comm. Pete GRANNIS at 1-518-402-8545

I am writing this letter to urge you to make every effort to enact an emergency rule-making procedure through DEC, to establish a fluke season extension beyond Sept.1, 2008. Recent science has determined that fluke stocks are in very good shape compared to previous assessment standards. The short season and severe regulations planned for this year, however, is punishing all of New Yorks saltwater recreational anglers because of the previous assessment, which was based upon poor science. New York fishermen have accepted many years of strict regulations in the name of conservation, and even saw an early closure of the 2007 season, which was an unprecedented action in the recreational fishery. New York fishermen deserve some relief after years of increasingly stricter regulations. The Fall season historically has represented a small percentage of the years landings, but will provide sport for fishermen, income for industry, and important relief to other fisheries, such as sea bass, which will see increased pressure due to the closure of fluke. We are already looking at substantial reductions in the sea bass allocations for next year, so it is unwise from any management perspective to put even greater pressure on a fishery to shield a strong stock, such as fluke. Thank you for your attention in this matter. Sincerely,

Saturday, 8/23

Fishing picked up today compared to yesterday. 48 keepers today. 120 other fish coming over the rail with the pool fish coming in at about 8lbs.

Friday, 8/22

Toughest day of the week. Dozen keepers with nothing outstanding.

Monday. 8/11

NOON REPORT: Glad the 15 Fishermen didn't listen to our friend....LOL...the weatherman. Lillian has a 9 lber with 8 others and Justin has also limited out. Well over 30 keepers so far today and it's only 12:00!

Sunday, 8/10

The weather forecast kept the crowd very light, and fishing was good today. Not a whole lot of keepers out of the 460 fish caught due to a slow drift, but Fran Haberland got herself another ten pounder today.

Very Good Fishing until the weather shut them off. 14 keepers up to 8 lbs.

Saturday, 7/26

28 keepers with about 250 other fish coming over the rail today.

Friday, 7/25

Very tough drift today w/ wind against the current. I was impressed by the amount of fish we caught, compared to the amount of bottom we covered. Seemed like Wednesday's fishing. A dozen keepers to 5.6 lbs., and 180 nice other fish.

Thursday, 7/24

Didn't get out today due to the weather.

Wednesday, 7/23

The flukes bit well today, the first time in a while. Probably because they knew what was coming. By 11:30, it was blowing over twenty knots out of the East, and the fish shut down. We had ten keepers by then, for those who could fish the quick drift, and a good showing of the sub-legal-sized ocean fluke that we haven't been seeing lately.

Monday, 7/14

Worse than yesterday. We had to fish in the current from the inlet to get bites. Ended up w/ five keepers and caught about 170 shorts.

Sunday, 7/13

The roll from Bertha got the fish, and we had a tough day. Only eight keepers and about 120 shorts for the trip.

Fluke fishing finally came back after the extended period of ground swells. Captain Whit ended the trip today w/ a couple of dozen keepers and good life for a very light crowd. The MIDNIGHT SQUID TRIP was decent, w/ over 160 squid being landed. However, you needed to have the touch to catch them last night. A few guys had thirty a piece, and most others had a lot less. Saturday night's trip has been cancelled. Please call and check for our squid schedule.

Monday,6/30

Didn't sail today. Hugh swell and no interest.

Tough weekend.

Managed about 15-17 keepers both days for very light crowd.

Report on Friday nights SQUID trip.

SQUID TRIPS

Friday, 6/20

Slow pick most of the day. 30+ keepers, 250 shorts with over 100 over 2lbs.

Thursday, 6/19

About 250 fish today, many nice ones, but only about a dozen keepers up to six pounds.

Wednesday, 6/18

Good drift today, and a conspicuous lack of dogfish everywhere. Took advantage to look around, but we ended up in the same area as of late. Tomorrow we will be back on Trade Winds II, as the maintenance is completed.

Monday, 6/16

Good fishing today. Over 200 fish, but only ten keepers. They just didn't want to bite today.

Father's Day Weekend Report

Hope everyone had a wonderful Father's Day. Fishing was tough this past weekend. Dozen or so keepers each day. The conditions just didn't come together with no drift most of the weekend. Tomorrow, 06/17 Tradewinds II will be having some maintenance done so we will be fishing on another boat operated by Capt. Paul. Any questions give us a call.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO ALL!

TWII will be full day fishing on Father's Day. Getting back at 4 like always!

Friday, 06/13

Noon Report-Capt. Paul just called with a mid-day report. 30 Keepers so far today up to 8lbs. 85 fish over 2lbs. with an additional 200 fish. Looking forward to a nice weekend of fishing.Friday UPDATE: Ended the day with 45 keepers and well over 300 fish. Nice fish coming up.

Wednesday, 06/11

Dozen keepers today with the total fishing coming over the rail about 80. Not as good as Tuesday in terms of action.

Tuesday,6/10

Fished today like always, TRADEWINDS II Style! 500 fish today with over 70 over 19 inches. Had 18 nice keepers on the boat. for a beautiful day. Beautiful day out on the Ocean!

Monday, 6/09

Another day of wind against current. Amazing. Anyways, we did manage to get on to some hungry ones, but kept only eight or ten. Out of two hundred or so shorts, about seventy of them were over eighteen inches, so if you like catching fluke, but can stand not taking too many home, this is a good trip. it's also been about 75 degrees out in the ocean the past couple of days. By the way, yesterday we started our "Trade Winds Calcutta," and it was very popular. Yesterday, the winner of the $15 Calcutta and regular pool got about $400, and today Ed won the Calcutta and regular pool, for a total of $300. Tomorrow, Tuesday, Trade Winds II has some scheduled maintenance, but Paul will be operating a replacement boat, so the trip will still go out.

Sunday, 6/08

Very tough today w/ wind against current. Omly managed twelve or so keepers, up to seven pounds. About seventy other fluke, w/ many nice ones, and two more monkfish today.

Saturday, 6/7/08

Good fishing in the morning. 250 fish with 90 over 2 lbs. 35-40 keepers with several up to 8 lbs. Pool fish was 8.1 with another just under it. Two monkfish ended up on the hooks, too.

Friday, 6/6/08

Nice fish coming up today with 18 keepers and 7 fish between 5-8lbs. Lillian had the pool with a beautiful 8.2 lber. About 180 fish were caught today, w/ about 70 of them over 18 inches.

Wednesday, 6/4/08

Mother Nature kept us at the dock today.

Monday, 6/2/08

The roll subsided enough today for a decent bite. The morning saw some nice keepers, and decent short life, and the afternoon fishing came alive again after a slow spell mid day. Carlos won the pool w/ a 7.7 pounder, and Hearst got his first beautiful keeper of the year.

Sunday, 6/1

Big roll left over from the blow, so the bite was tough. We finally got on a patch of hungry ones, and kept busy w/ the undersized larges, and one six pound keeper.

Saturday, 5/31

The Ocean forcast kept us at the dock today. Will be out again tomorrow.

Thursday, 5/29

Good morning bite with 9 keepers, 25 shorts for a very very light crowd. Pool fish was 5.5 lbs. Fishing dropped off in the afternoon again. Fishing is questionable for Saturday but we will put together an abbreviated trip for those that come down if we can't make the ocean.

Tuesday and Wednesday 5/27 and 5/28

Didn't get out because of the weather. Looking forward to sailing on Thursday.

Monday, 5/26

Poor bite in the morning, and it got rough in the afternoon. We ended up the day w/ 8 keepers and over sixty shorts for a light crowd. Mr. Kim won the pool w/ a 9.86 lb. slugger. That's three days in a row, or every day we've sailed, for the dock pool.

Saturday, May 24

Ended the day w/ ten keepers out of about a hundred fish. Some jumbo shorts were released. The morning was a better bite, and we lost the drift for a while before noon, and when it came back, they never did bite well.

May 24,2008 8 am

It was great to see everyone this morning and to finally get out! Looking forward to a wonderful season of many many doormates! Will post today's report later.

May 19, 2008

The weather has put us back a few days in getting the boat ready for 2008 season. We will be starting our season on Saturday, May 24, 2008. We will continue to fish in the fashion that we have always, giving our customers a full day of ocean fishing. We will be leaving the dock at 7am and returning around 4.

Sunday, 02/24/08 Cod

Kept 9 cod out of 35, dozen nice Blackfish and a couple of dozen ling. Fishing again this Sunday, 03/02/08 at 6am so give a call for Reservations.

Sunday, 02/17/08 Cod

Kept 18 cod out of 45, a dozen nice Blackfish up to six pounds, and over 90 ling. Pool fish was a twelve pound cod. The blackfishing looked like it would have been decent if it weren't so windy, since the boat didn't sit very still in the gusts. Marilyn Wynzecoskwi caught her first ever cod today on Trade Winds! Awaiting the pic from Freddie Zaiter so we can post it. We will fish again this Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008. Leaving the dock at 6 am and returning about 5 pm. This trip is by reservations only, limited to 28 persons, so give us a call to get on the list.
